Personal Security Devices you can use at Home

There are a plethora of personal security devices on the market, some for use anywhere at all, and others that are designed to be used in the home.

While many personal security devices may be used anywhere, simply because they are portable, they can also be used at home. But here we’re talking about devices that are intended specifically for use in and around the home. These include:

  * wireless alarm systems with dozens of sensors that can be reconfigured whenever necessary,
  * alarm motion sensors that detect sound, some of which can also be used as a smoke sensor as well,
  * both temperature and vibration sensors,
  * sensor lights that go on when they sense movement – these are great for getting instant light when you arrive home and for illuminating (and hopefully scaring) intruders,
  * door jammers that prevent intruders from opening doors of all sizes, even sliding doors,
  * door stoppers that you simply place behind a door that not only jams it, but also triggers an alarm alerting you to the possibility of an intruder,
  * glass guard alarm systems for window protection,
    * devices that alert you when people or vehicles pull into your driveway or enter a gate or the garage,
  * devices that let you know if someone opens a door or window in the house (some may be used for cabinets as well),
  * diversion safes that look like something else (from a book or soda can to an ordinary rock), but are designed to do the job of a safe, safely hiding valuables from view, and
  * a device that changes the tone of your voice (designed mainly for women who are at home alone).

Of course it is also a good idea to include some sort of self defense pepper spray and possibly a self defense weapon of another kind with your other personal security devices.

Most ordinary people (like you and me) prefer to carry non-lethal self defense weapons and devices. But we need to be sure that they will be effective. A personal panic alarm will make a huge noise when you pull the pin. Pepper spray or personal mace will temporarily blind an assailant and make the person cough and splutter and probably gasp for breath. The best stun gun will temporarily immobilize an attacker. If you’re looking for the most powerful stun gun, consider the number of volts it will deliver. Also look at the stun gun Taser that works on contact and can also fire projectiles.

In addition to personal security devices, you should also consider some type of personal safety training. Even if you aren’t keen to get into a physical fight of any sort, at least you will have the knowledge and ability to fight back effectively if the situation arises. And this doesn’t mean that you have to undergo stringent martial arts training. Good self defense training will teach you a handful of surprisingly simple techniques that will enable you to stop an attacker instantly. For example you will learn the self defense groin kick and where self defense pressure points are. You will also learn that for women’s self defense testicles are vulnerable and should be targeted.
