Personal Security
Personal security has become increasingly important all over the world, as
crime rates soar and wars ravage the world.
While most of us can’t afford to employ personal bodyguards, and not all of us have hefty friends who are
willing to pose as so-called buddy guards, we need to look at what is available on the market that we can use for
our own personal security.
Self defense products and self defense weapons in particular, are in huge demand worldwide. These range from
various personal alarm systems and a range
of personal attack alarms to self defense pepper spray products and various stun guns and stun batons. Keychain security, including the Mace keychain and other types of keychain that incorporate
LED flashlights, are popular, as are the many different stun gun products that appear to be something else (for example lipstick tubes, cell phones
and even toys).
Then there are the more permanent security systems that we use in our homes and other buildings, and the alarms
and immobilizers that we fit in our vehicles.
But personal security can go much further than the devices that we can use to protect
ourselves and raise the alarm in the event of attack or intrusion into our homes or vehicles. To be sure that we
have adequate personal protection, we can also take advantage of the many types of personal
safety training products and courses that are available to us. These, of course, include the most popular
martial arts as well as other self defense techniques that may or may not be based on martial arts theory.
Women, in particular, can use specific moves like a self defense groin kick or groin squeeze self defense action
that they will learn in non-lethal self defense classes. In fact women self defense is rated as absolutely
essential by a growing number of ladies.
When you consider what sort of personal security is necessary for you and your family, you need to look at a
number of factors including:
- Where you live (the center as well as the type of neighborhood and how safe it is),
- What kind of home you live in (from size to how accessible it is to other people),
- What sort of lifestyle you live (for example do you socialize a lot and spend a lot of time out and
about?),
- Whether you spend time alone on the road and/or in remote areas,
- Whether your fitness regime includes using public roads or walkways for cycling, walking and so on,
and
- What kind of job you have (are you often in a situation where you meet strangers?).
Other factors will be even more personal, including your size, disposition (how personable are you?), strength,
and attitude. A small, pretty, well dressed woman, wearing lots of jewelry is more likely to be preyed on than a
tough man who looks as though he comes from a very ordinary, working class background. It stands to reason.
But whoever you are, and whatever you look like, make sure you have the best personal protection possible – your life may depend on it one day.
